League Rule Essentials

Comprehensive League Rules Are Needed To Ensure An Orderly Bowling Season!!!

League Secretaries are required to submit a copy of their league rules along with their league application, payment summary sheet, and individual membership applications. All must be mailed or delivered to the Greater Buffalo USBC Association, 2448 Union Road, Cheektowaga, New York, 14227, within 30 days of the first day of bowling.

The following topics should be discussed and included within the league rules:

1. SET LEAGUE AND TEAM PLAYING STRENGTH AND SCHEDULE
2. DATES AND PROCEDURES FOR ELECTION OF OFFICERS
3. LISTING OF FEES TO BE PAID – USBC membership, weekly dues with breakdown
4. ARREARAGES – see USBC Rule 110a for guidance
5. SALARIES OF OFFICERS
6. LEAGUE BANK ACCOUNT – must be in name of league; two signatures required on account; monthly bank statement must be sent to president; president must verify bank balance on a monthly basis for 100% bonding
7. PRIZE LIST – must be approved by Board of Directors and posted by week 5 of your schedule; adopt rules regarding requirements for individual and team prizes
8. LEAGUE ENTERING AVERAGES – establish league guidelines and limits (if any) for teams and individuals
9. HANDICAPS – establish fair percentage and procedure for handicapping;
90%-100% of the highest anticipated average (plus at least 5 pins) is recommended
10. TEAM ROSTERS – establish maximum number of players and cut-off date for additional players to be added to the roster
11. LEGAL LINEUP – adopt league rule in accordance with league preference
12. TARDY BOWLERS – adopt league rule in accordance with league preference
13. ABSENTEE AND VACANCY SCORES – establish score to be used and any special rules regarding handicapping (absent bowler’s average minus 10 pins plus full handicap is recommended for absentee score)
14. POSTPONEMENTS – set guideline within the framework of USBC Rules 111a through 111e
